I chose to submit a photograph of my daughter for this publication because I think that it speaks volumes about how early young girls are molded by society. As a mother, I have tried to avoid pressing princesses and makeup on my daughter in hopes that she won’t be defined by society’s idea of what makes a woman beautiful. However, despite my attempts of not including this in my positive reinforcement behavior, my 2-year-old is simply drawn to the princess lifestyle of dresses, make up, and play jewelry. As a feminist mother, I support my daughter in whatever choices she makes for herself, including becoming a pampered princess of her own design. By supporting her in her decisions now, my daughter will know that she has a mother in her corner supporting her choices for the rest of her life.
