THE NEW SOUTHERN FUGITIVES is hiring a POETRY EDITOR.
This is a PAID part-time remote position: $100/month for 5-10 hours/month.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Someone with clear, identifiable expertise in poetry (for example, maybe you’ve acted as poetry editor somewhere else and/or you’ve published some poetry in lit mags, maybe even a chapbook or full-length collection).
Publications are NOT a requirement, but we do want to make sure you know your stuff.
You enjoy giving feedback.
You are happy working autonomously and with deadlines.
You are passionate about fostering a diverse community of writers and variety of voices, especially those with southern undertones and exploring southern themes.
You like talking to other writers and magazines on social media.
We encourage those from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds to apply.
You will work hand-in-hand with the Editor-in-Chief of The New Southern Fugitives to read and respond to poetry submissions via the Submittable submission manager. Experience with Submittable is a must.
You will also occasionally help with uploading content on WordPress and social media via Twitter and Facebook, time permitting.
Experience with WordPress is a big plus.
If you are interested, please send the following to firstname.lastname@example.org:
- Cover letter explaining why you think you’d be a good fit and explaining your approach to picking submissions (i.e. what makes one poem better than/stand out from another poem?)
- 3-5 original poems (can be published or not. Either hyperlink or PDF/Word Doc works fine)
- 2-3 published poems (written by someone other than you) that you absolutely love. Include a brief explanation of what makes these poems so outstanding.
Please send us your application no later than February 7th.
