On my way through Death Valley in early 2016, I stopped for dinner at Forty-Niner Café. The place was small and bustling, and I felt like the uninvited guest at a family reunion.

April Ford won a 2016 Pushcart Prize for her short story “Project Fumarase.” The Poor Children (SFWP, 2015), her debut collection of stories, won Grand Prize for the Santa Fe Writers Project 2013 Literary Awards Program for Fiction. April has held residencies at Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and Ucross Foundation. Her debut novel, Carousel, is forthcoming in 2019 with Inanna Publications.
